Round 5

Only 13 goals scored in total this week which is 10 less than the
week before. Even though both promoted sides didn't win this week
they still are impressing mixing it well with established 3rd Div
teams.

Both these teams had less than satisfying games last week but it
was Pasmaters who got out of the blocks first this week and took
the 3 points. This must would been very satisfying for Cagri as
they copped an absolute flogging last week by front runners Saskatoon,
Nitro on the other hand are having a shocking start to the season
and must do something soon. The scoring started early with Revivo
scoring in the 2nd minute and Roy managed to convert a very silly
penalty just on half time to take the score to 2-0 to the visitors.
Less than 10 minutes back from the shed after half time and Vendelboe
woke up briefly to claw back 1 goal and Nitro were back in the game.
Unfortunately for them that was the only goal they had in them.
Before the game Pasmaters defender Crowley apparently went to his
manager and confided that he was very nervous about his up coming
SL increase. Cagri told him not to worry as he had hired some security
guards with orders to shoot on sight any small brown simians or
large Tongans seen loitering round their dressing rooms. In other
Pasmaters news, Molder will sit on the sidelines for 1 game after
racking up 10 holiday points but they welcome back Bollokov from
injury. Nitro on the other hand welcome two of their players back
with Citroen and Spaghetti back from suspension.

|
This game was going to be interesting. Both teams had started the
season well, Houston sitting in 2nd place after 4 round and AMU
shocking several teams after being tipped to go straight back down
to Div 4. They were also at opposite ends of the scoring spectrum,
Houston were having trouble scoring goals (apart from 1 game where
they smashed Spartak) but conceding few as well. AMU on the other
hand are having no troubles putting the ball in the net but their
defence has been a bit suspect(especially last week against Spartak
funnily enough). The first half provided no goals, but not long
after half time Medinna took Houston to the lead and the bookies
were breathing a little easier. Less than 20 minutes later however
Cole filched one back and suddenly it was one all and that the way
it stayed. Ian will be the happier of the two managers with Iggy
annoyed that his team let this one slip.
There were a couple of dramas for Houston this week when Alvarez
was yellow carded ensuring he spends a game sitting in the stand
and Iggy must have had heart failure when his top goal keeper Grobbelaar
was taken off, luckily it wasn't serious and he will back for their
next game. They also get Lihhma and Negro back from injury to bolster
their lineup. AMU like Houston have a player sitting out the next
game in Roche, however since Stam and Blomqvist are back from injury
that should more than cover his absence.

Previous years underachievers Saskatoon travelled to play the recently
promoted Besiktas. Both teams had big wins last week with Saskatoon
handing out a 6-2 hammering to Pasmaters and Besiktas comprehensively
outplaying Eastern 4-1. It certainly was a sprightly first half
with all the goals being scored before the break. Unfortunately
for Besiktas, Saskatoon showed them why they are sitting on the
top of the table when they scored 3 goals in less than 25 minutes
and basically put the Besiktas defence to the sword. Just before
half time Nouma pulled one back but it was always going to be an
uphill struggle against a team that is conceding just 1 goal a game.
Alas it was not to be and Saskatoon march on. Eugene must be much
happier with his team so far this season as they have dropped just
1 game so far this season. Cagri will be less happy however as this
loss sees them drop to 7th spot from 5th last week. He can however,
take heart from the fact that he is only 2 points adrift of 3rd.
Both teams have a player sitting out next game. Mehmet for Besiktas
and Edknapp for Saskatoon will have a game off after running foul
of the referee once too often. Saskatoon also get Alfalfio back
which will bolster their attack, but they lose both Arabic and Do
for 2 and 5 weeks which will be a bit of a blow and tempers Alfalfios
return.

Barnsley seem to be in real trouble, 4 games have been played before
this one and they have only picked up 1 point. Even more worrying
for Barnsleys Manager Dodo Samoscanec is the fact that they are
yet to score a goal. Spartak however, have only been held scoreless
once this season, that was when they played Houston a couple of
weeks ago. Spartak in previous season have been in Barnsleys shoes
in that although they defended stoutly they never really scored
enough goals to really threaten come playoff times. Their reversal
in the ability to score goals can be explained because they traded
their best defender for a quality (if controversial) forward in
the off season. That said forward produced the goods again this
week when he scored a double against the struggling Barnsley. One
came from a nice piece of pace and skill, the other from the spot
when Midfielder Samoscanec earned himself a yellow card for fouling
a Spartak player in the box.
Hoppa seems to be in the news a bit recently and was there again
this week when he got his double and avoided the SM™ when he got
another SL increase. When asked about it he said "Well me and Shafty
are mates.. I have been taking over from him when he wants a weekend
off or when things get busy, so in return he has said that I am
immune from his dirty tool". Is this fair?? In other news Barnsley
get Shivute back from suspension which will help them to maybe get
on the score board, unfortunately though, Samoscanec gets a week
off for his foul that led to the penalty.

Api have been having a reasonable season so far. Two wins, a draw
and a loss saw them in 4th spot before this week and they would
have been looking to extend that run against an Eastern side that
has only won one game so far. Alas for Api and Manager Jesus that
was not to be and they crashed to a 4-0 defeat. Eastern had been
leaking goals up until this point but this week they kept a clean
sheet and put Api to the sword. They shared the goals around with
Laudrup, Wong, Yeung and Cheng all tormenting the Api goalkeeper.
This was a much needed win for Eastern and the 4 unanswered goals
improves their goal difference, which is till -3 even with today's
effort.
If anything things got worse for Api after the game with the monkey
making an appearance to give a gentle tweak to both Hernandez and
Agpensa, but the real blow was the loss of Colosimo who initially
had a minor knee injury but was run over by the medicab when it
came out to get him and will now be out for 8 weeks. Questions will
be asked about this incident. Eastern didn't get away totally scott
free with both Yau and Kalkanou out for a week each. Borde however
managed to avoid the Monkey as he was on the bus before the nasty
little simian had finished doing over the Api lads.

This weeks big mover is Spartak whos 2-0 win over Barnsley
and with other results going in their favour jum from 7th to 3rd.
Nitros slide continues and a manager needs to be found fast. |

Saskatoon are in fine form and continue
to lead the comp with Pasmaters close behind. Barnsley are yet to
score a goal this season and if they are to avoid the drop they are
going to have to start winning. (Now there is an obvious statement.) |

Everyone in the top ten list here has now
had a week off and Molder is but a booking away from 2 weeks off after
this weeks send off. |
|
Roy is still on top but the huge mover
is Agpensa from Api who must have had some absolute blinders in the
past 2 games to jump from 8th to 2nd picking up 54 points and now
is just 8 points behind Roy. |
