Round 8

Barnsley V Nitro Table Moves
Besiktas V Api Table
AMU V Eastern Scorers /Assists
Pasmaters V Spartak DPS /Performers
Houston V Saskatoon

A paltry 17 goals this week with a 0-0 draw and a 1-0 which really sucked the goal total down. Eastern and AMU did their best to improve things but it just wasn't enough.

Barnsleys start to the season has been poor… Lets be honest, it has been about as crap as it could possibly be, 7 games no wins 1 draw and 6 losses. The funny thing was that they don't have the worst defence in the league in fact before this game there were only 4 teams who had conceded less goals than them and Nitro was one of them. Barnsley might be good at stopping goals however they are utter shite at scoring them. It must be some sort of GISL record that a club could go for 7 league game and not even score 1 piddling goal. Well, that is all behind them now as they break a double drought against one of the power teams of the 3rd division. New Barnsley manager David Austin (former manager of Adelaide City) has started his tenure at the beleaguered with an exciting win that saw his team come from behind after Nitro jumped to an early lead and really gave his fans something to scream and cheer about. The question is can they back it up again next week when they travel to Eastern.

This historic win did however come at a price with both Angus and RasZobbi spending some time on the sideline. In fact RasZobbi has the dubious distinction of being the 1st player to be suspended for a 2 week period in Division 3. Lucky him.

Besiktas 1 - 0 Apijarevoleada APR
A_Eltawil (bes) 9'

The first upset of the week was the turnaround of Barnsleys fortunes and the 2nd happened in the 9th minute of this game when Besiktas striker Eltawil put away what was ultimately the game winner in a very tight match. Jesus Hernandez will be very annoyed with his senior players like Smegovic who failed to trouble the score sheet in any way. On the other hand Besiktas Manager Cagri will be very happy that his team pulled off such an important win which, although they are still in 9th spot, gets them within 3 points of 4th placed Spartak who they play next week.

The news just got better and better for Besiktas with all 3 of their players who received an SL increase managing to avoid Shafty, which is some achievement in itself. Api's only ray of light comes from the fact that they get young Meller back for their next game against Nitro which will be a tough one.

Aussie Man Utd 2 - 5 Eastern FC

Q_Scholes (amu) 18'

KH_Man (eas) 73'

Although AMU got beaten pretty convincingly this week, after a 2nd half romp by Wong and Man, they continue to really have a go at taking it to the bigger sides. They have scored quite often however their defence leaves a bit to be desired as they have let in over 20 goals in 8 games. This works out to about 2.5 goals a game they concede and since they are scoring about 1.5 goals a game you don't have to be a mathematical genius to see where this could go. Their only saving grace seems to be that when they win they win quite well but when they lose they lose big time. Nothing should be taken away from Eastern though who played well, especially in the 2nd half, and probably deserved their points.

There were some positives from the game for AMU… Mainly the fact that SM™ was nowhere to be seen when both Keane and Webber had skills go up. The only problem is that it will be 4 weeks until he can use those skills of Keane as he hurt himself rather badly during the game. With Beckham also out for a week and AMU are looking a bit shy in the midfield which could be a worry against the league leaders next week.

Pasmaters 2 - 2 Spartak Haifa
I_Lazanga (pas) 4'
S_O'Flynn (hai) 16'
I_Lazanga (pas) 21'
J_Hopoate (hai) 76'

A seesawing game that first saw the home side go ahead in the 4th minute only to have the Spartak fullback O'Flynn equalise 15 or so minutes into the game. Pasmaters Lazanga got his team back into the lead in the 21st minute when he slotted home what for a long time looked like the winning goal. Unfortunately for Pasmaters it was not to be when the brown finger himself grabbed a point for Spartak with just 14 minutes to go in the game. The Spartak Manager will be the happier of the managers with the single point but any points are valuable in the race for the table and since Saskatoon didn't manage to win it means that Pasmaters lose nothing… well except for the chance to go into the lead I suppose.

Not much else happened in the game except Pasmaters Delphi has been injured for 4 weeks. He has not long come back from another layoff so this will be a blow.

Houston Odyssey 0 - 0 Saskatoon Wanderers

A nill all draw is not something we have seen too many of this season, but since the game was between 2 teams who have conceded less goals than anyone else in the competition I suppose it was on the cards. Houston have an absolutely amazing defensive record and while their attack may not be the most potent that we have in the division they have scored enough to keep them up the top of the table. Saskatoon on the other hand have been scoring plenty of goals and not letting in many at the same time which, I spose, is the number 1 goal in football anyway.

You can see I don't have much to say about this game and the only off field drama is the injury of Gunner for a couple of weeks that means that Houston may have to ease up on the number of forwards they are playing.

Not a whole lot of movement this week, except Nitros steady climb has been stopped by Barnsley.. At least for the moment. Eastern are steadily improving like Nitro and you would expect them to continue their steady rise.

Saskatoon keep the lead even though they didn't win this week. Pasmaters are close behind and missed a chance to go into the lead. Barnsley finally win but have a lot of work to do.

The top 4 score and keep their places static.   Saint keeps his lead and extend it by one Glicic has a corker of a game and jumps to 2nd

RasZobbie gets his butt sent off and jumps into the lead with a whole bunch just 1 card away from joining him.   I said that Glicic had a great game well he has jumped from 12th to 1st spot this week collecting a staggering 49pts.
